Oh Noes - no more Hostess snack cakes? F@#k Unions!

From the New York Post:
Hostess bakers go on strike
Union workers at Hostess Brands plant in Lenexa, Kan., walked off the job yesterday, kicking off a potentially crippling strike that could force the company to liquidate.

Hostesss second-largest union, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers & Grain Millers International Union, said workers at more plants may strike in the next few days.

The Post reported exclusively yesterday that as many as eight of the 36 bakery locals were planning a strike this weekend after the bankrupt maker of Twinkies and other products imposed an 8 percent pay cut on workers.

The bakers represent about 6,000 of the companys 18,300 workers.

A widespread strike will cause Hostess Brands to liquidate if we are unable to produce or deliver products, Hostess said. We urge our employees to remain on the job to rebuild the company.
A perfect example of why unions are well past their sell-by date. The parent company is going through bankruptcy and asked the workers to take an eight percent pay cut. Now, because of the union's intransigence, 6,000 workers will be out of work. The idea is to form a partnership with the employer -- to re-calibrate their demands to meet the conditions of the day and not just ratchet everything up to eleventy. Unions had their place in early industrial America when the idea of moving from one city to another was unthought of. But now, if a factory is paying poor wages, the workers can move to another place where the pay and living conditions are better. Lenexa, Kansas has a 2010 population of 48,190. This is twelve percent of the population that will find themselves without employment. Posted by DaveH at November 10, 2012 9:43 AM
