Waterboarding

Had the second water board meeting this month. Next Saturday is our Public Annual General Meeting and this is the meeting where we announce an increase in rates for everyone. We checked the other water districts in this area and we are on the low end of fees for water and the last time there was a rate increase was in 2006. Still, a lot of people will blithely send off checks to the Power, Phone and Cable companies but because we are a local cooperative run by friends and neighbors, they will quibble over every penny. One concern is that we recently moved into a permanent office in the old Town Hall. We also hired a person part-time to do bookkeeping and office work. So Ohhhhhhh... you are spending our money on non-essentials. Little do these people know that we got a killer price on the office space and we get free electricity, telephone, internet, heat and utilities. Also, our part-time person offloads what our accounting company was doing for us (and billing accordingly). We are now moved over to an internal copy of QuickBooks Pro and we email a quarterly copy of our books to a CPA to be "blessed" -- the cost is a lot lower and we have total control over our records. Need to keep all of our ducks in a row for the meeting. Still, I love being President of the Board. I was involved with our local Chamber of Commerce but dropped out as they and I were going in different directions. With the Water Board, I am active in development and running a business -- something I love. Posted by DaveH at February 24, 2013 9:20 PM
