The Life Aquatic with Steve Zizzou

We just saw this tonight and it is a wonderful wonderful movie... Recommended highly -- the interplay between characters is well done with a lot of subtle depth and the humor is elegant and dry. The movie revolves around a take-off of a Jacques Cousteau documentary style and the cast and crew nailed that perfectly... Whomever was responsible for the set dressing deserves a raise -- I majored in Physical Oceanography and Marine Biology back in the late 60's and I used some of the equipment in the movie and recognized a lot of the other stuff. The stuff you see is authentic and old, even the vintage camera (Arriflex) and sound (Nagra) equipment. I was thinking that The Team Zizzou ship (the Belafonte) looked a lot like the Cousteau Calypso. The two ships share a common origin, they are both 50-year-old ex-Navy Minesweepers. Well worth seeing... Here is a review, here are some production notes. Posted by DaveH at January 8, 2005 9:40 PM
