Big Round Numbers

What is it that draws people to Big Round Numbers? What makes 2,000 fundamentally different than 1970 or 2051? For some reason, many people have been salivating at the prospect of a 2,000th American Service fatality in Iraq. Cox and Forkum nail the sentiment exactly and they offer some interesting links:
