Big Business

Slashdot announced that Adobe is buying Macromedia today:
"Adobe Systems Incorporated and Macromedia, Inc. today announced they have either received or been notified they will receive all regulatory clearances necessary to complete Adobe's pending acquisition of Macromedia. The companies expect to close the transaction on December 3, 2005. Does this mean the end for Fireworks and Freehand?"
I use a much older Macromedia product for my web design - HomeSite which was originally written by cartoonist Nick Bradbury. HomeSite 1.2 was released as free-ware and is still available here. Nick has since come up with TopStyle which is primarily a CSS editor but also does HTML quite well. I use both TopStyle and HomeSite and really like them both. It will be interesting to see what happens to some of the other products from Macromedia. As mentioned in the Slashdot article there is Freehand which is a vector drawing program that competes directly with Adobe's Illustrator. Posted by DaveH at December 2, 2005 11:40 AM
