An engine for a boat...

I had initially blogged about it in March of 2004: World's largest Diesel Engine I found today that the website had moved to another server and had been greatly expanded. Check out the all new: The Most Powerful Diesel Engine in the World! Here is one of the new photos showing the crankshaft in the crankcase:

You can see the rungs of the ladders used to descend to the oil pan. Here is the completed engine:

The very cool thing is that the efficiency is extremely high. More than 50% of the available energy in the fuel gets converted to motion. Contrast this to smaller engines in automobiles and aircraft where the efficiency is in the 25% to 30% range. Posted by DaveH at August 31, 2006 8:32 PM
