An expensive conference

From San Francisco station KTVU:
U.S. Postal Service conference at Moscone Center totals $2.2 million
The United States Postal Service is bleeding money and drastically cutting services, yet the agency is spending more than $2 million to send its top executives to a conference in San Francisco.

The National Postal Forum is happening at the Moscone Center next month, which includes workshops and meetings but there's also a dance party, a dinner event and a golf tournament.
More:
Documents obtained by KTVU's Washington D.C. bureau show the travel, $220,000 in exhibit space and other incidentals will cost the postal service $2.2 million.

The advertised hotels, such as the Marriott Marquis and the Intercontinental, go for nearly $300 a night before the government discount.

Internal postal service documents show beyond meetings and a golf tournament there will also be music entertainment and a taste of San Francisco banquet at the Marriott featuring the foods of Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown.
$2.2 million will buy a lot of stamps. No wonder they are broke... Posted by DaveH at February 19, 2013 5:53 PM
