And another one bites the dust

Say goodbye to this Ames True Temper factory -- the company is almost 240 years old and falling victim to our economy. From Erie, PA station WFXP:
Union City Manufacturing Plant Closing
The Ames True Temper manufacturing plant is closing its doors this fall. Thirty full-time, permanent employees will lose their jobs.

We spoke to Union City borough council president, Dan Brumigan, to confirm the closure, and he says this is the sixth factory to close in the past 15 years, resulting in a total loss of about 800 jobs in the Union City area. He says this is especially a large number of job losses, considering that the population of Union City is about 3.300.

He also says the community faces other economic challenges with the closure of the plant. The borough will lose tax revenue and water/sewage revenue from the plant closure.
The company is still very much in business but still, it is sad to see the USA manufacturing move overseas to China... Posted by DaveH at February 17, 2013 10:06 PM
