Type

I had a printing business for six years. Two presses and all the other stuff (wish I hadn't sold the process camera). Been into desktop publishing since it first came out -- actually earlier, I was doing true proportional printing using WordStar on a CP/M machine. Ran into a gorgeous set of photographs from the Caslon Letter Foundry. From Spitalfields Life:
At The Caslon Letter Foundry
While researching the work of William Caslon, the first British type founder, whose Doric & Brunel typefaces, newly digitised by Paul Barnes, are being used by David Pearson in The Gentle Authors London Album, I came upon this wonderful collection of photographs of the Caslon Letter Foundry in the St Bride Printing Library.
Here are three of them:

Many more at the site. Also, ran into this documentary film about the Line-o-Type machine. Check out Linotype: The Film Trailer online for your viewing pleasure. Posted by DaveH at August 6, 2013 11:55 AM
